TEMPLESTOWE, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, October 23, 2012
/Worldwide Who's Who/ -- Julie Grint, Director of QMMR Services, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in pharmacy.
After more than 30 years of experience as a pharmacist, Mrs. Grint gained extra credentials necessary for her to provide medication management reviews. She runs her own consulting company, QMMR Services and visits patients in their homes to educates them about their prescribed and non prescribed medications, as well as checking their use of medical devices (blood glucose meters, spacers and nebulizers). A written report is provided to both the doctor and the supplying pharmacy(s), after each patient visit, containing recommendations to improve quality of care.
The home visit enables the identification of dosing errors, duplication, out of date medications, hoarding and abuse of the Pharmaceutical Benefits System (PBS). This service is paid for by the federal government under Australia's Medicare scheme with no charge being made to the patient. The service was implemented as a cost saving measure by the government as it was recognized that $100's of millions in medical and hospitalization cost are incurred each year due to drug misadventure. The elderly, non-English speaking migrants and those on complex drug regimens are especially vulnerable. Many of these costs can be avoided by providing in depth patient education, reasons for treatment and monitoring for adverse effects and interactions at the interview.
Attributing her success to a genuine enjoyment of her work, Mrs. Grint offers a professional and quality service to each and every patient she encounters. She became involved in her profession because she enjoyed science and in particular Pharmacy appealed to her because it involved her favorite subjects: physiology, pharmacology and chemistry. Pharmacy is a healthcare profession with a long and proud tradition of service to the community stretching back centuries. Moreover, it offered equal pay for women and the opportunity for part-time work.
Mrs. Grint received a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the Victorian College of Pharmacy, now a faculty of Monash University. She has also undertaken some studies in herbal medicines so as to be able to advise patients in that area. Mrs. Grint is a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), Women on Boards (WOB), Australian Shareholders Association (ASA) and the Women's Friendship Group (WFG).
In the years to come, Mrs. Grint and her husband would like to retire and do some traveling; however, there is a shortage of Pharmacists with accreditation qualifications and she may travel around Australia offering her services in regional areas where there is a shortage of people with such skills. She enjoys reading, music, movies, coin and stamp collecting, gemology and traveling overseas.
