/24-7PressRelease/ -- Homeschooling parents are fanning the flames of discovery in their children's hearts by introducing them to the intriguing world of a firefighter, veterinarian, and chef, along with many other popular professions, in a brand-new E-Book series from the publishers of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, LLC (TOS). The WannaBe Series : When I Grow Up, I Want to Be . . . is a fun, interactive way for a child to discover his/her life's calling and find out more about various vocations that people have and love.
In their playful activities, children happily emulate what they envision—trying on different hats and shoes—whether those be the shoes of a fireman, farmer, foreman, or flight attendant. But they don't have to stop there! They could be discussing specific educational requirements, what cities pay top-dollar salaries, and other such meaty facts.
Career Week is a popular elementary school tradition during which children learn about a broad range of careers and hopefully become aware of the education = successful future association. As a result, some kids may take more of an interest in school, but it just may be that kids are curious and find learning about different people and their respective occupations enthralling and fun—that's the real draw.
TOS plans to expand the series with dozens of additional titles. Gena Suarez, TOS's publisher and the project initiator, shares some of the thoughts that led to the idea initially:
"What do you want to be when you grow up? That's the question we adults frequently ask our kids. As children get older they begin to ask themselves that question too: What DO I want to be when I grow up? There are so many interesting careers out there, but how do you know what they're really like? Where do you even start?
Few resources on the market today provide in-depth, interesting, age-appropriate, and comprehensive information about a full range of careers. TOS has recognized this void and has stepped up to fill it with our new WannaBe Series : When I Grow Up, I Want to Be . . .
We asked parents to query their kids about what they want to be when they grow up. Hundreds of parents from all over the country wrote to us, laughing about how their child said 'lion tamer,' 'spy,' 'a Ninja,' 'construction worker,' or 'mommy.' One little guy even said, 'I wanna be a salad!' From those readers' responses, we crunched the numbers based on child interest—and a series was born!
Each WannaBe E-Book is an occupational study guide that's filled with activities, coloring pages, copywork, history, and inspiration. You will be amazed by the depth of information presented in these E-Books (which even include basic salary statistics for each occupation, across the country). Best of all, this is not a 'dumbed down, little kid' study. Kids of all ages (even adults) will find these guides appealing and informative. High schoolers will likely be peering over the shoulders of their younger siblings, comparing firefighters' salaries in New York and California, for instance."
An outing to the fire station is usually a favorite one for children, so it seems fitting that the very first title in the WannaBe Series is the fascinating Firefighter. Young readers will explore the history of firefighting, examine the fire truck's equipment, learn about the firefighter's responsibilities and income, and meet Wilshire, the firehouse dog. They'll be introduced to well-researched information and interrelated web links as well. Readers are sure to be intrigued with all the fascinating, fun facts included in this thorough study and delighted with engaging hands-on educational activities and four related fitness games. This E-Book also will teach your child how to build a robotic arm, make a shoebox fire truck, bake a yummy fire truck cake, and host a firefighter-themed party! Yep, kids will be ablaze with delight!
Though many of the activities are geared for children aged 4 to 10, the content is appropriate for the whole family. Homeschooling families who enjoy supplemental schooltime lessons or great any-time activities are TOS's targeted audience, and these E-Books are appropriate choices for students of all ages.
Reviewers and customers of the Schoolhouse Store (where the E-Books can be purchased) are excitedly anticipating the next, soon-to-be-released titles:
• Veterinarian
• Chef
• Military
• Doctor
• Police Officer
• Missionary
• Artist
• Pilot
• Farmer
More and more people are discovering the benefits of an E-Book unit study such as Firefighter. Compared to a hard-copy publication, E-Books offer the advantages of instant access, easy printing of pages as needed, elimination of book clutter, super handy Internet links and affordable prices with no shipping costs.
The Schoolhouse Store offers a vast lineup of homeschool products that cover almost every area of study. Parents can purchase enriching resources and products from our store, including the WannaBe Series .
The first three careers explored in this E-Book series are Firefighter, Veterinarian, and Chef. More WannaBe career E-Books are in the works right now and will be released soon. Watch for them! The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has done it again with yet another great e-product—fabulous, fun lessons designed to enhance children's love for learning.
