-- Larry and Sons, a plumbing, heating and air conditioning services company, proudly promotes a current article
featured in UT San Diego that emphasizes why health begins with improving home air quality. The professionals at Larry and Sons are dedicated to helping clients achieve enhanced air quality at home while boosting their home's energy efficiency. According to the EPA and the American Lung Association, the air inside any home may be seven to 100 times more polluted than the air outside.
The staff at Larry and Sons
weighs in on the importance of air quality improvement. "Air quality is extremely important for the health of all household members," said a representative. "Poor air quality can lead to unwanted health issues. Often, air quality goes unnoticed, simply because it is invisible. Most individuals are concerned with food and water quality; yet neglect to place importance on the air quality of their home."
The article notes that in a report to the California Legislature, California's Environmental Protection Agency asserted that indoor air pollution contributes to health concerns including respiratory illnesses, asthma and more. The report also indicates that these health problems cost Californians at least $45 billion each year.
In determining why and how homes become unhealthy, Ken Justo, co-owner of ASI Hastings Heating, Air & Solar, comments, "When your home is built, many small holes were drilled to run all of the plumbing, wiring, TV and security cables as well as heating and AC ductwork to deliver all of the amazing conveniences we enjoy today. Such construction holes allow for direct air exchange between living areas and attics or crawl spaces."
The staff at Larry's adds, "This means that residents are subject to breathing in polluted air in their own homes. The holes are also inadequate in terms of energy efficiency." The report notes, "To improve the air they breathe, many homeowners may turn to high-efficiency air filters." The plumbing and heating and cooling company points out, however, that using such filters without acknowledging the underlying issue could actually provide little advantage.
"The best action to take is to seek out a professional energy evaluation to enhance quality and efficiency," said a representative. The team also recommends keeping the home dry and to fix leaky faucets right away, as a failure to do so can lead to serious mold issues. "If you have carpets, vacuum regularly. Carpets collect dust and dander. Get rid of the pollutants as often as possible." The staff advises homeowners to keep their space tidy to improve air quality, as neglecting to put food away or clean up after pets can negatively impact the air quality. Larry and Sons recommends homeowners test for dangerous substances like lead, radon and asbestos in their homes.
