MODESTO, CA, June 9, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lawrence Scheg, Professor of Reading for Modesto Junior College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of higher education.
Professor Scheg's career started in 1973 as reading instructor for Walter Panas High School at Shrub Oak in New York. He was a pioneer in creating district, state and federally-funded reading laboratories for that high school. In 1995, he began a career in teaching reading at the community college level at Santa Barbara City College. He also taught at Allan Hancock College and Antelope Valley College before coming to Modesto Junior College in 2000. In addition to his community college instruction, Professor Scheg has taught for Chapman University in their graduate level program. There he instructed aspiring teachers on how to implement teaching of reading and study skills into virtually any curriculum, and at nearly any grade level. He has written seven books and integrates technology in his teaching methods like interactive puzzles and games and attributes his success to his hard work.
A member of CLRA, Professor Scheg received his Master's Degree in Education and Certification in Reading from Western Connecticut State University. He received his Bachelor's Degree in English from Niagara University and in his free time, he enjoys coaching baseball and kayaking.
