SAG HARBOR, NY, October 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leonard W. Bernard, Jr., Business Manager for the Sag Harbor Union Free School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in public finance and management.

With 28 years of experience in finance and public administration, Mr. Bernard specializes in operational management, auditing, internal controls, and budgeting. He brought his talents to the Sag Harbor Union Free School District four years ago. In his current position, he is responsible for monitoring budgets, policies and procedures, overseeing internal controls, and managing all business functions in the school district. Mr. Bernard previously honed his skills in public finance, government operations, and government administration at the United States General Accounting Office in Washington, DC. He also served as an elected official (town council) in East Hampton, NY and as a finance commissioner for the Town of Brookhaven, NY.

In addition to his work for the school district, Mr. Bernard is an accomplished painter. Influenced by early 20th-century modernism in Europe and the American abstract expressionism movement of the 1950s and 1960s, his oil and acrylic paintings are characteristically colorful, bold and modern. Mr. Bernard held his first show at the Crazy Monkey Gallery in Amagansett, NY in October 2008 and has participated in Clothesline Shows at Guild Hall in East Hampton and several shows at Ashawagh Hall in Springs, NY. He has sold his work privately and has pieces hanging in homes in the Hamptons, as well across Florida, Washington, New Jersey and Texas.

Mr. Bernard received his Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1979 from George Washington University. His professional affiliations include Phi Alpha and the New York State Association of School Business Administrators. In his spare time, he volunteers with Kiwanis International where he has served as club president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.
