KATY, TX, November 02, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Grey Gecko Press, a local independent publisher, has applied for a $250,000 grant from Chase as part of a newly launched program, Mission Main StreetSM Grants. Customers, fans and community members can show support for Grey Gecko Press by voting at https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/business/detail/13102 using Facebook Connect.---
Grey Gecko Press must submit a questionnaire outlining a business plan that will result in growth of the business and receive at least 250 votes to be eligible for a grant. The voting deadline is November 15, 2013. In total, 12 grant recipients will be selected by expert panelists.
"As a small, independent press, Grey Gecko Press keeps its overhead low and focuses on what we care about most—publishing quality stories by deserving new authors. A $250,000 grant would allow us to publish dozens of books over the next five years and bring many new writers to the attention of readers who will enjoy their work for years to come," said Executive Director Jason Aydelotte.
"Not only would this grant help Grey Gecko," continued Aydelotte. "but it would also allow us to expand our community outreach efforts, including writing contests/scholarships for local schools, 'Free Book Day' events at hospitals and senior centers, and many other programs. It's a win/win for the company and the community."
Books published by Grey Gecko Press include Horse, which in 2013 won an Ippy, an international award for independently published books. The author, Leon Berger, also wrote the true story Lunch with Charlotte, for which Grey Gecko Press currently donates a portion of its proceeds to the Holocaust Museum of Houston, Texas.
More than half of Grey Gecko Press's authors are local to Houston, Texas, including thriller writers Lee Lackey and Leo King, science fiction writers George Wright Padgett, Wayne Basta, and H.C.H. Ritz, and the press's best-selling author, Jason Kristopher, author of The Dying of the Light, which was a top-5 finalist in horror/suspense in the Best Indie Books of 2012 and 2013 from the Kindle Book Review.
