SAN DIEGO, CA, June 27, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Leone, a locally-based author, screenwriter, director and music producer, will sign copies of his latest novel, "The Crowd Dreams of Love," at Earth Song Books in Del Mar from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, June 27.

A native of Southern California, Mr. Leone has worked for many years as a musician, screenwriter and director in theatre and film, writing for Oliver Stone and Sean Penn, among many others. He is the author of six novels and a volume of poetry. Mr. Leone is a graduate of Phillips Academy Andover and Harvard, and a former Stegner Fellow in Creative Writing at Stanford and Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute.

The Crowd Dreams of Love, published by independent press Blithedale Books, is receiving high praise within the writing and creative communities as a timely and prophetic message of the power of individual and collective love, set against a background of a country in chaos caused by political and economic pressures and corruption.

"The crowd is dreaming louder and louder and pretty soon their dreams will spill over and drown the globe. In blood." says Benedict Fitzgerald, writer of the screenplay The Passion of the Christ for Mel Gibson. "This novel is a clairvoyant look at what might have been and what could still be in our future. Franz Fanon meets Franz Kafka...this is a classic in the tradition of both," said Eric Hamburg, Producer of Oliver Stone's Nixon and Any Given Sunday.

Conjuring Wells, Huxley or Orwell, The Crowd Dreams of Love is the story of a reclusive composer of modern music who is drawn inexorably into the tumult of his times by three women: Marie, an immigrant waitress with connections to the murky Underground; his student, the beautiful young pianist Eva; and his former love Caroline, now one of the most famous movie stars in the world- as famous for her political opinions as for her movie roles.

Lawrence's search for love parallels the search of the crowds outside his windows for justice. They live in a modern city where the government suspends basic rights and civil liberties, a popular anti-war politician is assassinated - some suspect by agents provocateurs - and the imprisonment of ordinary citizens, immigrants and even celebrity activists is accelerating as the Federal Police monitor citizens' every movement, and neighbors use toll-free phone lines to denounce neighbors who disagree with them or the new law of the land; dissident s are imprisoned in an ominous corporate concentration camp, where a memory-altering helps gas to "re-educate" them back into socially-acceptable roles.
