HOUSTON, TX, July 8, 2009 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Lois Ladd Swinney, English teacher for Aldine Independent School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership, and excellence in all aspects of education.

Ms. Swinney's professional life began at the age of nineteen when she taught eleventh graders at Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and was inducted into the teacher's honor society, Kappa Delta Pi. She has attended classes at Virginia Commonwealth University, Arizona State University, St. Thomas University, and has taken seminars in Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, and Arizona. She has been English department chair in five states and lead teacher in two other states. She has sponsored National Honor Society, Literary Club, school newspaper, reading club, Spanish Club, etc. Over the years she has taught methods/staff development classes to teachers in five different states, done re-writes of classical literature, and written curriculum guides, benchmark tests and grants. She has been a guest speaker at Arizona State University, directed nine student teachers, and hosted two foreign exchange teachers from China. While in Arizona she worked with the State Department by having visiting teachers from Mexico visit her classes for a semester to see English taught as a first language and to learn teaching methods. She has been mentor teacher to teachers in each district she has taught. She has been chosen by students in six high schools as favorite teacher and has been elected "Best in Her Field of Teaching" by the faculty of Arcadia High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her passion is teaching teenagers English. Many who came into her class saying, "I don't like English," came out saying, "I've learned so much about language, reading, writing and so much about life. This is my favorite class because it makes me feel good about myself and the progress I have made." Ms. Swinney attributes her success to hard work and love for her profession.
