Abstract Mechanical, when things go wrong with a toilet, it's useful to have the basics covered - it saves time and money. One of the most common issues that many households experience is a leaking toilet tank. Abstract Mechanical suggests the following helpful tips for fixing common plumbing problems:
Step 1: Clients are advised to locate the source of the leak. Then wipe up any visible water in order to view see where it's coming from. Check the screws that attach the tank to the bowl and tighten them if the are lose. Use a flathead screwdriver and an adjustable wrench, to hold the bolt still while tightening the net underneath the tank.
Step 2: The washer may be the cause of the leak. If that's the case, it will need to be replaced and you may want to do this yourself. Make sure, you have the right sized washer for your bolt, and the correct tools to do the job. If water's still coming through when you're done, it may mean that your washer is too large. In which case, you're not done yet!
Step 3: Check the bloat ball. Is water leaking through the handle? Do you need to move the position of the bloat ball? Take care when investigating and moving the bloat. It's best to flush the toilet afterward and empty the tank, then you'll have a full tank of water to test the next flush.
Step 4: If none of the above have solved the problem - or if one has identified a crack in the tank, accept that it's serious and call in a professional plumber.
