/24-7PressRelease/ -- Lukas, "The World's Smartest Horse" according to Yahoo, Google and the World Records Academy is scheduled to attempt his Guinness record "Most numbers identified by a horse in one minute" on June 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. PST. A full crew will be in attendance and Guinness guidelines (that Lukas' owner/trainer Karen Murdock helped develop) include:
1. No touching/pointing by anyone.
2. No equipment (even a halter).
3. A single verbal request (number) solely.
4. Only correct responses counted.
5. Numbers requested randomly in a non-repeating pattern.
6. Video filming to be continuous (no stopping/editing allowed).
7. Expert witnesses, a veterinarian and two timers with stopwatches accurate to 1/100th of a second.
What does the ex-racer/rescue think about all of this? According to Murdock, "These are all things that Lukas and I already do for fun, minus the audience, of course. For us, our goal has never been for personal recognition - what we're hoping to show is that animals are intelligent, so that they'll be treated better. Guinness' kind invitation is a significant acknowledgment in this very positive direction."
"The biggest challenge," laughs Murdock, "will be to try to remember not to say 'Good!' or 'Nice!' during the test." Her only other concern is the spacing requirement that stipulates eight inches between the numbers: "Lukas has had the same desk for eight years, so I went with smaller numbers for this - he may also be the first horse to need glasses when this is finished!"
