M. Hillary Onan, MD, Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Pediatric Ophthalmology

AUSTIN, TX, February 9, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- M. Hillary Onan, Pediatric Ophthalmologist at Dell Children's Eye Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Growing up, Dr. Onan's father, Cloyce D. Bennett, taught her that education was everything. She took that advice, along with her desire to be a doctor, and entered Baylor College of Medicine. She continued her education by completing a Transitional Internship at St Joseph's Hospital, a Residency in Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at Texas Children's Hospital. She has since gained more than a decade of experience, specializing in the medical and surgical management of pediatric eye disease. She also specializes in the treatment of adult strabismus.

Dr. Onan acts as the Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology and the Vice Chief of the Surgery Council at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. She also serves on a child abuse team, testifies in child abuse cases with eye findings, and lectures around the state on eye findings in child abuse. She teaches pediatric ophthalmology to residents and medical students. She was a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2000-2001.

Named one of Texas Super Doctors from 2006-2011, Dr. Onan is a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In the coming years, she aspires to continue providing excellent eye care to the children of Central Texas at Dell Children's Eye Center and Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, as well as to participate in the education of future physicians, hopefully, as part of a new medical school in Austin.
