/Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Mary J. Nicholson, RN, BSN, Staff Nurse at Worcester County Adult Medical Day Services, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of nursing.
With 31 years of professional experience in the field of nursing, two of which have been dedicated to her current position as a staff nurse at the Worcester County Commission on Aging at the Worcester County Adult Medical Day Services, Ms. Nicholson specializes in the provision of nursing services for mentally challenged and geriatric populations. In her position at Worcester County Adult Medical Day Services, she is primarily responsible for assigning nurses to facilities for short-term work. She feels that her greatest professional accomplishment was working with the mentally challenged for 25 years; she found it thrilling to work with them because all small improvements were major accomplishments. While serving as a registered nurse for the Developmental Disabilities Administration through the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at the Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland, she was accountable for the supervision of all of the staff on the shift at the housing facility that had nine cottages and an infirmary, a canteen, maintenance and security. Ms. Nicholson recognizes that nursing is not an easy vocation, but advises those who aspire to become involved in the healthcare field to never give up. She follows the motto: "Whatever you choose to do, do it with passion and you'll get it done." She attributes her success to the support she received from her husband of 43 years as well as from her son, Isaac, as they have continually helped and encouraged her.
Ms. Nicholson earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wilmington University in 1996 and became an RN through Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing, which is affiliated with Salisbury State College, in 1978. She also earned her diploma from the Philadelphia School of Dental Nursing in 1963. She contributes to the Pocomoke MAC Center, and serves as an ordained elder, Sunday school superintendent and teacher at Snow Hill Christian Church. She reads RN to remain current with the trends in her profession.
