Maureen P. Kriese Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Special Education

Maureen P. Kriese's mantra is to be of useful service to others



    Greenville, South Carolina, October 18, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maureen P. Kriese, Director of Special Services for District Five Schools of Spartanburg County, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the field of special education.

Maureen started her teaching career in southwestern Ohio. After one year, she moved to Indianapolis and taught special education students for 14 years in a variety of settings. Her family then moved to South Carolina and Maureen taught for three years in Anderson and two years in Greenville before moving into the field of administration. Maureen worked as a Special Education Administrator for eight years in Greenville County Schools before moving to Spartanburg District 5 Schools to become the Director of Special Services in 2001.

Maureen's talents and skills reach beyond her professional 'day job". Having been in the field of special education in South Carolina for over 25 years, her networking connections are quite extensive. By knowing key people from the inter-related agencies throughout the state, she is able to help families and colleagues navigate the complex system of supports and services for children with special needs and their families. Her mantra is to "be of useful service to others." She attributes her success to great training and excellent mentors. Her passion for advocacy has never waned. Maureen loves being a champion and a voice for those who cannot advocate for themselves. This year Maureen added two new departments to her busy schedule. She is also the district coordinator for Gifted and Talented students as well as English Speakers of Other Languages. ( ESOL)

Maureen received her master's degree in special education and secondary school administration from Butler University in 1982. She earned 36 additional hours from Clemson University and is certified in secondary supervision and principalship. Maureen is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and the Council of Exceptional Children which named her the Local Special Education Administrator of the Year in 2007. Outside of work she also gives back by volunteering with the Lion's Club and Middle Tyger Community Center.
Maureen has been happily married to her husband Tom for 34 years. They have 2 adult children: son Mickey and daughter Gretchen.
