Michael B. Amowitz Honored for Accomplishments in Government

Mr. Amowitz wrote and edited while serving as a civilian with the military

Mr. Amowitz spent more than 30 years as a writer and editor for the U.S. Government

ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 9, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael B. Amowitz, Retired Writer and Editor for the U.S. Government, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Amowitz spent more than 30 years as a writer and editor for the U.S. Government. On a daily basis, he was responsible for meeting the needs of the American warfighter and military and political leadership. His responsibility was to provide the most accurate political, military and economic information on all countries around the world. He oversaw office budgets, public relations and advertising and, in one position, reviewed the defense budget. His duties also involved checking facts and making military documents understandable to his co-workers and superiors and to outside customers.

Mr. Amowitz was active in radio in the late 70s. He was a DJ and reporter with WCRC, WLLL/WGOL, WBRG and WLVA from 1975 to 1977, and was engaged in public relations in a regional government organization in southwest Virginia in 1977. He served as a reporter and photographer for The South Hill Enterprise, a Southside Virginia newspaper, from 1977 to 1978. At the end of 1978, he began his government service in public relations and editing for the U.S. Army. In 1980, he moved to Fort Knox. Kentucky to serve as assistant editor for "Armor Magazine." In 1981, he moved to Los Angeles to work in public relations and advertising for the Army. For the rest of his government career, he worked in Metro Washington, D.C. in various defense agencies, as well as for NIH and the Interior Department's Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Looking back, Mr. Amowitz attributes his success to his stubbornness and desire to do the best he can no matter what the task. He became involved in his profession because he fell into it. He also grew to love journalism, as it is a broad field, with many topics to delve into. He was able to try a little of everything, including music, travel, arts and world events.

Mr. Amowitz received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Richmond in 1976. He is a member of The Canadian Country Music Association, and has been inducted into Phi Delta Epsilon. In years to come, Mr. Amowitz would love to own and operate a radio station.
