CARY, NC, August 03, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/
-- Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine (http://www.enterprisingwomen.com), has announced that she represented the publication as a delegate at the Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) "Education, Networking, and Policy to Grow Your Business" conference held July 18 and 19 at The Liaison Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Smiley had the honor of introducing Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) at a congressional leaders luncheon on Capitol Hill during the event.
During the two-day conference, participants heard from accomplished national leaders about the state of women in business and how to implement effective growth strategies in government contracting and online marketing. The conference was held in the wake of a WIPP study that revealed the exclusion of women from congressional hearings. Highlights of the event included a briefing from Tina Tchen, assistant to the President and chief of staff to the First Lady; and Don Graves, executive director of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness and the deputy assistant secretary for Small Business, Community Development and Housing Policy. "It was an honor to represent Enterprising Women magazine at an event specifically designed to inspire women business leaders to work more in affecting public policy," said Smiley. "It is vital for women to have a seat at the table when important policy decisions that impact our businesses and our lives are debated."
- The congressional leaders' luncheon featured remarks from Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) along with Sen. Hagan
