New Product Increases Safety for Little Leaguers

A Ridgefield, CT start-up today introduced Protect on Deck (POD) for youth baseball leagues. POD is designed to increase safety for teammates, coaches, and spectators while a youth player is swinging a bat during practice and warm-up situations.

RIDGEFIELD, CT, February 02, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- See Squared Concepts, LLC, a Ridgefield, CT start-up, announced today the launch of their new product: Protect on Deck (POD). POD is designed to increase safety for teammates, coaches, and spectators while a youth baseball or softball player is swinging a bat during practice and warm-up situations.

"As a child I was struck in the face by a teammate who was practicing to swing while on deck. I fractured my eye socket, sustained a concussion, and never played baseball again. I created POD so other kids won't have to suffer the trauma that I did," said Chris Berzolla, Greenwich, CT resident, inventor of POD and partner in See Squared Concepts, LLC.

In fact, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission's National Electronic Injury Surveillance System estimates, thousands of children each year sustain serious injuries from accidentally being struck by a bat. Injuries involving a bat and requiring a hospital visit range from upper body contusions to face lacerations and concussions.

POD provides a clearly delineated area, enveloping the practicing player and significantly reducing the chance of another player, spectator or coach from entering the swing area and sustaining a serious injury.

"Despite many youth baseball league's policies and best efforts to ban practice swings off the field, all too often you will see a child swinging the bat next to the bench," said Chris Gaydos, Ridgefield resident and partner in See Squared Concepts, LLC. "With the POD, kids have a place to practice their swing before they get to the plate with little fear of clocking a teammate or passerby."

PODs can be setup in only 2 minutes, and fit directly to any fence or backstop, making it easy to use in both games and practices.

Protect on Deck is also designed to display a 6 foot by 2 foot vinyl banner that youth baseball leagues can use to sell sponsorships to help offset league costs.
