This procedure involves removing skin of similar texture and color from other areas of the body and grafting them into place in order to reconstruct visibly accurate nipples.
Unlike those that only pursue areola tattooing, nipples created by skin grafting will lack the natural, physical sensitivity as nerve endings that supply these sensations are removed.
Recovering From Nipple Reconstruction
The recovery process following nipple reconstruction is mild. All patients will have the surgical area dressed with an antibiotic ointment and women are required to wear a non-compressing bra. Occasionally a plastic, nipple shell must be worn to shield nipples from outside forces.
