Norcross Dentists at Norcross Dental Associates Explain the Worst Drinks for Your Teeth

Sodas, energy drinks, sports drinks, coffee and tea can all damage your teeth, explains Norcross Dental Associates.

ATLANTA, GA, December 17, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Many dental patients wish to take better care of their teeth, but they are uncertain what foods and drinks can negatively affect their dental health. Norcross Dental Associates, a cosmetic dentistry group in Norcross, wishes to clear up which beverages are the most damaging to your smile.

Watch out for These Drinks

Sodas are one of the top offenders when it comes to dental harm. These drinks contain high levels of sugars and acids, both of which wear down dental enamel and encourage decay.

Sugar-free options remove one part of the equation, but the Norcross dentists warn that diet sodas still rely on acidity for flavor.

Energy drinks and sports drinks can do even more invisible damage than soft drinks to the enamel.

These drinks attack your enamel in two different ways: The first is through their acidic content. Phosphoric acid, citric acid, malic acid and tartaric acids are often present in these drinks and each of these acids is known to wear down enamel. The second is through a longer exposure period. Most people will sip these drinks continuously over long periods, leaving teeth constantly exposed.

Coffees and teas are also able to damage your teeth. The dark coloring of these drinks stains the enamel of your teeth over time, causing them to become yellow or discolored.

"Teeth whitening procedures can help to fix this damage, but you will have to repeat them if you continue to consume beverages that stain your teeth," warns Ken Tralongo, CEO of Tralongo Management.
