Drs. Brian Bergmann and Gottfried Hohm, Oconomowoc dentists, completed ARESTIN Certified Expert (ACE ) comprehensive training.

OCONOMOWOC, WI, January 19, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Half of American adults have periodontal disease. Yes, it's an unfortunate truth, and one problem that Drs. Bergmann and Hohm, Oconomowoc, WI dentists, want to stop and treat before it causes bigger problems for patients. To be able to effectively diagnose and treat periodontal disease, Drs. Bergmann and Hohm completed ACE comprehensive training.

Periodontal disease (also known as gum disease) is an infection of the gums, causing the break down of soft tissue and bone supporting your teeth. That's why periodontal disease is the number one cause of tooth loss. If left undiagnosed and untreated, gum disease can cause a long list of dental issues-ones you don't want to deal with.

"It's for the sake of our patients' oral health that we decided to take advanced training and become certified in diagnosing and treating periodontal disease. Gum disease is a patient and dentist's worst nightmare. It's our job to help you maintain your oral health and preserve your natural teeth. And gum disease can disrupt all of that," explains Dr. Hohm, Oconomowoc dentist.

To treat periodontal disease head-on, Drs. Bergmann and Hohm are trained and ready to see patients regarding gum issues. What does it mean to be an ARESTIN Certified Expert?

ARESTIN is an antibiotic, containing minocycline hydrochloride, placed in microspheres, which kills bacteria located near your tooth's root. For the duration of treatment, these little microspheres are used alongside a scaling and root planing (SRP) procedure. The purpose of pairing ARESTIN and SRP is to make treatment more effective, encouraging faster healing time.

Why not just take antibiotic pills instead of ARESTIN ?

"ARESTIN is applied right at the source, near the root. Thus, we are exposing a higher concentration of antibiotics directly on the bacterial infection, unlike an antibiotic pill. ARESTIN is an FDA approved add-on therapy for periodontal disease," says Dr. Bergmann, dentist in Oconomowoc.
