TORONTO, CANADA, April 30, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Ontario Wine Society's (OWS) is holding its first event in Oakville - A Sparkling Spring Evening - on Sunday, May 24, 6:00pm. Since this is a first for the OWS in Oakville, and a reason to celebrate, it is appropriately bubbly focused. Fittingly, Donald Ziraldo, one of the people responsible for creating the Ontario Wine Society in 1991, will be leading the tasting. The OWS welcomes anyone 19 or older to attend. Seven of Ontario's finest sparklers will be sampled with one Champagne included for comparison.
"This event will provide an opportunity to experience what is happening in the wine industry and discuss its future and how people can get involved" says Mr. Ziraldo, Co-Founder, Inniskillin Wines and Chairman, Ziraldo.ca.
In addition, Jim Warren, Stoney Ridge founder and President of the Ontario Viniculture Association, and Martin Charrois will be on hand to pour two of Stoney Ridge's new releases, a 2008 Riesling and a 2008 Gewurztraminer.
Ken Burford, President of the OWS says that "We are hoping that there will be sufficient interest in an event of this type to either hold another event later in the year or even form a chapter of the OWS for the Oakville/Mississauga area. An OWS chapter would hold regular tasting events that feature Ontario wines and compare them to wines from around the world."
"As residents of Oakville and longtime supporters of Ontario's wine industry, my wife, Angie, and I are looking forward to the convenience of having Ontario Wine Society events presented locally rather than having to travel to Toronto or Niagara. These events are unique opportunities to meet the personalities who make up the industry and to compare wines across grape varieties, winemaking styles, geographic variations and vintages." says Barry Wylie, C.A., President, Canadian Club of Halton Peel and Treasurer, Oakville Chamber of Commerce
Our venue for this evening is Seasons Restaurant which is a favourite of the locals for great food and impeccable service. They will be providing appetizers to go with the sparkling wines.
