RALEIGH, NC, January 23, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Operation: Coming Home (http://operationcominghome.com), a joint volunteer project by the Triangle Veterans Association, Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) and Royal Oaks Homes, among others, has announced that PFC Cody Stanton, an injured Raleigh soldier and specialist with the 21st Military Police Company based at Fort Bragg, will be the recipient of the nonprofit organization's fifth Hero Home, to be built in the Forest Springs neighborhood in Holly Springs, N.C. The announcement of the fifth Hero Home recipient was made during a special halftime ceremony at the NC State men's basketball game versus Clemson University as part of the university's Military Appreciation Day. Stanton and his family, along with previous Hero Home recipients and members of the volunteer project, were all on hand for the ceremony.

Stanton was deployed with the 21st Military Police Co. from Fort Bragg's XVIII Airborne Corps in November 2011. In January 2012, Stanton and his unit were training with Afghan police about three hours outside of Kandahar, Afghanistan, when he sustained severe injuries to both legs as the result of an IED explosion. Stanton was immediately sent to the Kandahar Airfield Hospital, where he received a Purple Heart prior to surgery. Since Feb. 5, 2012, Stanton has been residing at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He will live in a home to be built in the Forest Springs development, which will include features designed to give him easy accessibility to all rooms. Construction is scheduled to begin in February, with completion of the home projected for July, 2013.

QUOTES:
"Following a rigorous review of candidates under consideration for the next Hero Home, there emerged a consensus that Cody Stanton is an inspiring representative of the many brave men and women of the military who make daily sacrifices for the freedoms we are able to enjoy as a nation," said Tim Minton, executive vice president of HBA of Raleigh-Wake County and board president of Operation: Coming Home. "We are excited to honor Cody's great service to our country by presenting him with a new home where he can live and enjoy his independence for years to come."
