Pagoda Dreamer begins with Davis's mother Dorothy's formative years in China in the early 1900s, a time and place where women were expected to be seen and not heard. Dorothy, or Dore as she was more commonly known, refused to bow to the social constraints of her time. This confident, independent spirit saw her through many challenges: losing a child, two husbands, and almost her own life to tuberculosis. Throughout her life, her time in China stayed close to her heart and she dreamed of returning before her addiction to alcohol cut her life short.

About the Author: As the only child of Dorothy Rowe and Benjamin F. March, Judith March Davis is uniquely qualified to tell this story. After two years at Oberlin College, Judy earned a BA degree in art history from the University of Michigan. Following a move to the east coast in 1980, Judy became a senior staff writer at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and later director of public relations on the Rutgers-Newark Campus. Following early retirement, she wrote freelance magazine features until 1996, when she moved with her second husband Ethan Davis to Prescott, AZ.
