Meet Nursing Professional Peggy A. Drogemuller

/Cambridge Who's Who/ --A devoutly Christian woman, Peggy A. Drogemuller always viewed nursing as a way to live out her faith. As such, she dedicated no fewer than 43 years to this pursuit, striving at all times to make patients' lives better. She concluded her career in 2009 at Verdugo Hills Hospital, a 158-bed facility nestled between La Caņada Flintridge and Crescenta Valley, Calif., where she specialized in medical-surgical nursing and mentored new nurses. Ms. Drogemuller, a veteran of home care, was known to sacrifice her own health in the service of others. A somewhat reluctant retiree, she conceded that it was a triple neck fusion that forced her to finally walk away. As she explained to Cambridge Who's Who in a recent interview, "I kind of abused myself over the years with lifting and pulling people around."
Faith and a profound love for her profession saw Ms. Drogemuller through other challenges and changes. She avers that nursing is a field that has evolved on a daily basis and to her is now, "barely recognizable." Still, she persisted in it. "Doing good for people is basically what I like to do, [and] nursing is the best way to do that," she said, matter-of-factly. Certified in chemotherapy, she took care of many cancer patients and derived satisfaction from relieving their pain. Although being around such people proved to be trying, she nonetheless worked hard to help a soul pass in comfort and hope. To augment the joy she felt in fulfilling her calling, Ms. Drogemuller received numerous letters and cards of appreciation from her patients and their families, which she cherishes to this day. When asked if she could envision herself in another profession, candidly she answered, "Never."
Ms. Drogemuller received an associate of science in nursing from Pacific Union College, a Seventh-day Adventist Christian liberal arts college recently named one of the top 10 colleges in the annual "America's Best Colleges" issue by the U.S. News & World Report. In recognition of her hard work, in 2009 she was honored as Outstanding Nurse of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who. She is thankful for her parents, Gordon and Florence Otto, and attributes her success to the inspiration she receives from her mother.
