Pennsylvania Boy With Spina Bifida Feels His Lower Legs For The First Time In His Life Following Novel Stem Cell Treatment

    TIJUANA, MEXICO, January 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Spina bifida (Myelomeningocele) is a birth defect in which the backbone and spinal canal do not close before birth. It typically gives rise to loss of bladder or bowel control, partial or complete sensation as well as paralysis of the legs, and fluid build-up inside the skull (hydrocephalus). Conventional care consists of surgery, medications to help with symptoms and various forms of physiotherapy.

Nova Cells Institute of Mexico has been treating children with spina bifida using adult (nonembryonic) stem cells from donor umbilical cords and in some instances their own bone marrow derived stem cells since 2010.
