PITTSBURGH, PA, January 23, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to a recent The Doctors episode -"Dangerous Toxins," which aired January 3rd, 2013, there may be a link between multiple sclerosis sufferers and mercury dental fillings. Pittsburgh Cosmetic Dentists, Dr. Charles Frye, and Dr. Joseph Quartuccio, of Dentonics Inc. agree saying, though there is no hard link between multiple sclerosis and mercury fillings, there is a possible risk; and because of this risk, their Pittsburgh dental office has been mercury-free for over 15 years.

According to a recent press release by International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IOAMT) Dental amalgam (silver) fillings, contain approximately 50% mercury. The IOAMT also stated mercury is one of the most toxic heavy metals on earth; and that there have been several studies linking it to neurological illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.

"The EPA designates excess dental amalgam as hazardous material that must be disposed of as toxic waste," said Dr. Joseph Quartuccio. "I would never consider placing such a substance in my patients' mouths. The possible links to certain systemic diseases only reinforces that philosophy."

There are an estimated 2.1 million people worldwide with multiple sclerosis (MS.) MS is an autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system and affects the brain and spinal cord.

"I'd like to think that here at Dentonics we are always on the fore front in dentistry," said Pittsburgh cosmetic dentist, Dr. Frye. "There has been recent press about the mercury in dental fillings and its deleterious effects. We at Dentonics have not use mercury dental fillings in over 15 years. We truly treat our patients as family, if it's not good enough to been placed in my family's mouth, it won't be used in yours."

Since 1925, Dentonics Inc. has offered a wide range of services including general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and neuromuscular dentistry. They have proudly offered mercury-free dental fillings, including tooth-colored resin fillings and porcelain fillings.

Dr. Frye belongs to several prestigious dental institutions and groups, such as: International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Dental Academy, Academy of General Dentistry, Pittsburgh Academy of Dentistry and the Pittsburgh Dental Network (PDN).
