As the National Portable Storage Association (NPSA) celebrates Bell's birthday â " and his accomplishments â " it offers yet another little-known fact about its members' products: telephone service.
"Many people don't realize custom containers can be outfitted with telephones and computer jacks that make doing business away from the main office not only possible, but also efficient," said John Finnessy, CMP, Executive Director of the NPSA, a nonprofit membership association dedicated to the advancement of the portable storage industry. "Custom modifications on shipping containers offer electricity, lighting, air conditioning, windows â " and telephones. If you need it to run an office, you can get it with custom portable storage units."
Beyond portable office uses, adding telephone lines makes custom containerized storage suitable for high-tech security checkpoints. Security guards can dial into the main facility to clear guests through the land line, or access the Internet and e-mail. What's more, portable storage used as temporary housing can also benefit from these amenities.
"Mobile telephones may be a vital part of doing business today, but Bell's original invention is still an important aspect of business communication," said NPSA Operations Manager Joel Rathbone. "Wireless Internet service is not yet an automatic option in today's world, so the use of land lines can be a key to productivity while in temporary offices spaces on job sites."
