BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, August 30, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/
-- New research seen exclusively by Marketing Week, reveals that consumers are placing increased importance on businesses actions and core values (Marketing Week). "It is time for some brands to re-evaluate their priorities. Promoting and acting out ethical business practices has never been as important as in today's economy," says Jameel Paul
, managing director of Pro UK Consultants Ltd
, an event based sales and marketing firm in Birmingham. In a recent Marketing Week report, 3,500 people were surveyed and asked to rate brands in three areas: their actions, engagement and whether they would recommend them.
Jameel Paul at Pro UK Consultant Ltd says: "It is relatively alarming that only 20% of brands achieved a 'top' ranking in all three criteria," according to the survey. A number of brands have committed to focusing more on the way they communicate with customers.

Pro UK Consultants Ltd were asked to implement more personal and transparent campaigns in order to raise awareness and promote the good business practices of their clients. "Consumers do their homework online, they watch the news and are easily convinced not to purchase from a specific brand once the image has been damaged due to unethical behaviour," says Jameel Paul of Pro UK Consultants Ltd.
In January this year for example, Tesco got into the news when it was announced that horse meat was found on their shelves. As a result, the supermarket reported a 1% decrease in sales from stores open for a year or more in the 13 weeks to 25 May. Tesco's market share had also dropped from 30.7% to 30.1% (Marketing Week).
Similarly, there was public outcry at the end of last year after it emerged that big corporations including Amazon, Vodafone, and Starbucks were paying little or no corporation tax in the UK. "We are working closely with our clients," says Jameel Paul. Pro UK Consultants Ltd want British businesses to act responsibly in order to gain the trust of their customers. Consumers tend to select brands with known ethical business practices which leads to increased sales for those firms, and a higher customer retention and return on investment.
As consumers place more emphasis on companies' actions and core values, Pro UK Consultants agree with Marketing Week 's suggestion that brands may have to shift the focus of their performance measurements to include reputation as much as profit in order to maintain a good relationship with the public.
