PHOENIX, AZ, June 09, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The CDS reports 800,000 Americans are bitten by a dog and most require medical attention. 386,000 of those dog bit related injuries require emergency medical assistance. CDS also estimates more than a handful of dog-bite victims die. When getting bitten by a dog, the bite itself and the vicious bruises and abrasions left are not the only issues for the victim. Rather, it is what the dog could be carrying - rabies.

The World and Health Organization estimates 30 percent to 60 percent of rabies victims come from an infected dog. In 2002 the Arizona State Health Laboratory confirmed the highest number of rabies cases on record after testing more than 2,700 animals. At the end of 2008 Arizona Republic reported that the state of Arizona was ahead of Texas and New Mexico in the Southwest Regions one of the leaders in rabies reported cases.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control reported 5,000 dog-bite cases in Maricopa County in 2006. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control advocates vaccination of dogs as the only preventive actions towards ending the possible spread of rabies from animal to human in a dog-bite related injury. Their objective is to avert human exposure through education and respond to any cases where exposure to a vicious dog bite occurs; particularly in which the dog may have rabies in the Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa area or elsewhere in Maricopa County.

Signs of a Rabies Infected Dog

• Withdrawn Dog from its surroundings
• Excess amount of cloudy saliva and drooling
• Glassy eyes
• Irritable and lazy
• Constant opening of mouth
• Snapping of the jaw due to paralysis

Dog owners are legally responsible for the actions of their dogs. But most importantly, Arizona Dog Owners are responsible for vaccinating their dogs. If someone else's dog has injured you or someone you love, the owner is liable for your damages, including medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering; an Arizona dog bite attorney is who you need to represent you.

Rabies is a silent killer among Humans with a life cycle of 7 to10 days, with the end result being death if not treated.

A vaccination for rabies after a dog-related bite consists of a series of expensive, long-needled shots over several days, which begin usually on the stomach or wound site.
