/24-7PressRelease/ - Lahaina, HI, May 11, 2008, Sharita Abbott, Physician for the West Maui Healthcare Center, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in family medicine.

As a physician for the West Maui Healthcare Center, Dr. Abbott is responsible for providing continuity family medicine and urgent/emergent medical care to patients ranging from the pediatric through geriatric age groups. She attributes her success to her genuine desire to provide high quality healthcare to her patients. Dr. Abbott takes pride in her work as a family physician, and finds motivation and support from her husband and two young children. Prior to joining the West Maui Healthcare Center in 2004, Dr. Abbott's clinical experience included ambulatory and inpatient responsibilities, intensive care (ICU) medicine, nursing home care, and emergency room medicine.

Dr. Abbott obtained her MD from the University of Hawaii in 1997. She received the American Medical Women's Association Award for graduating as Valedictorian of her medical school class. She was President of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Hawaii Chapter, from 1996-1997. Dr. Abbott was Chief Resident for the University of Hawaii Family Practice Residency Program in 2000.

Dr. Abbott is currently Board Certified in Family Medicine. She is the recipient of the 2007 America's Top Doctors Award for Family Practice from the Consumers' Research Council of America.
