Shelley Joy is a multifaceted New York artist with international appeal
New York, NY, January 28, 2013 /Worldwide Who's Who/ -- Shelley Joy has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in fine arts.

Contemporary artist Shelley Joy is a multitalented painter, dancer and poet whose strong body of work includes dramatic oil paintings using symbolism, texture and bold color permutations. Her previous experience with music and theatrical productions influences the abstract imagery of her paintings, enhancing mystique and allowing for multiple interpretations. In addition to completing training with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and The Art Students League of New York, Ms. Joy has taken coursework at the Aegina Arts Center in Greece and the New England School of Photography. In addition to participating in Connecticut College's American Dance Festival, she has also collaborated on improvised musical performances so harmonious that viewers believed they were witnessing rehearsed sets.

Though based in the bustling artistic center of New York, Ms. Joy has exhibited her work in Greece, Japan and France, among other locations. At home in the Big Apple, galleries featuring her paintings include the Puccio Gallery and the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery. While exhibiting and selling her work is certainly rewarding enough in its own right, perhaps most gratifying to Ms. Joy is the respect and encouragement she receives from fellow artists and peers. She holds especially dear her relationship with saxophone player Ornette Coleman, with whom she enjoys playing music and having philosophical discussions.

Ms. Joy counts Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and Joan Miró among her favorite contemporary artists for their use of space and color, a technique she also employs in the creation of portraits, landscapes and the human figure.
