LEEDS, ENGLAND, October 07, 2008
/24-7PressRelease/ -- A new studyš from
online gaming company CircusCasino.com, part of the UK's biggest casino operator, has revealed who poker buffs would most fear in a tournament - and if you're an actor, a stockbroker, or Sir Alan Sugar, you're in luck!
Topping the list of the professions perceived as having the best skills for doing well at poker were actors, because of their bluffing skills (29%); followed by stockbrokers, with their experience of hedging bets and high stakes (27%). Coming third were politicians, who, because they are perceived to lie so well, attracted 13% of the votes.
The top five most feared professions˛
1) Actor (because of their bluffing skills) 29%
2) Stockbroker (due to their skills in gambling/speculation) 27%
3) Politician (because of their ability to lie) 13%
4) Accountant (because of their head for figures) 11%
5) Public speaker/comedian (because of their skillful banter) 6%
The research also revealed the celebrities that players would LEAST like to face in a
poker game, and Sir Alan Sugar, with his business nous and no-nonsense not-to-be-messed-with nature, came top!
The top five most feared celebs˛
1) Sir Alan Sugar 22%
2) Duncan Bannatyne 20%
3) Professor Stephen Hawking 20%
4) Gordon Ramsay 19%
5) Sir Trevor McDonald 12%
Peter Nolan, MD of CircusCasino.com, said: "Interestingly, actors and those working in the film industry are often great poker players - Jamie Gold, the Hollywood director, won a massive $12m at the 2006
World Series of Poker while the likes of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are highly respected international players. Stockbrokers deal in numbers every day, and you could say theirs is an art of betting too - so it's no surprise that both these professions are top of the most feared list.
"The celebrities featured in our list can be quite intimidating characters - either physically or intellectually. However, if you prefer not to play face-to-face games, a great place to hone your skills is online; where no one can see your face and technique and skill are paramount."
šThe research questioned more than 1,000 poker players from across the UK to find out their attitudes to the game.
