CHICAGO, IL, October 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sister Mary Fearon, who retired as a Teacher from Mercy Sister of America, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
Sister Fearon enjoyed a fruitful 63 years in teaching. She recently concluded her career at Mercy Sister of America, where she taught religious education. Also an author, she co-wrote several textbooks on the subject with Sandra Hirstein; two of these, "The Gift of Forgiveness" and "Celebrating the Gift of Jesus," were published by Houghton-Mifflin, Harcourt-Orlando, Florida and Brown & Co.
In addition to teaching and writing, Sister Fearon served as a delegate of the NE Cluster from 1978 to 1979 and of the National Catholic Education Association from 1979 to 1987. She served as the Archdiocese's Catholic education CCD and was responsible for creating lesson plans for both children and adults. She also conducted teacher training courses during the summer. Sister Fearon toured Rome and the Holy Land, and participated in a catechetical tour of Europe from 1974 to the 1980s. Honored with the Bene Award and the Catechetical Award by Cardinal Francis George, she attributes her success and longevity to her religious beliefs and positive attitude about life.
A certified teacher in the State of Illinois, Sister Fearon earned her Master of Arts in 1971 from Loyola University Chicago's Institute of Pastoral Study and her Bachelor of Science in 1958 from Saint Xavier College. She also completed training in parent effectiveness. Now officially in retirement, Sister Fearon looks forward to spending more time with her friends.
