Specialist Discusses New Study on Slowing AgingSpecialist Discusses New Study on Slowing Aging
Dr. Jason McWhirter, a laser hair removal specialist in Calgary, is responding to a recent study which tested the effects of senescent cells and aging in mice.
CALGARY, AB, December 10, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Jason McWhirter is responding to the release of a report that explains how researchers used genetic engineering to delay the effects of aging in mice. Dr. McWhirter says the study, which was published by a team from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is extremely promising and could eventually provide other options for patients who now turn to cosmetic treatments and procedures such as BOTOX in Calgary.

"I'm always interested in learning about advances that could help my patients to look younger," Dr. McWhirter says. "Although this study is new, it provides promising potential for women and men interested in reversing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, until more research is done, treatments such as filling agents are still the best options for fighting signs of aging."

Researchers found that removing senescent cells, which are found in aging tissue, could decrease, or even eliminate, the effects of aging in mice. The goal is to use this procedure with humans, postponing the onset of wrinkling and possibly even diseases. The manipulation of specific genes could provide an option for patients who want to slow the aging process.

"This research is a breakthrough, and I look forward to seeing how it can be applied to humans," Dr. McWhirter says. "Certain drugs can target senescent cells, but this new technology provides a more promising avenue for combating aging."

Dr. McWhirter points out that this is only a preliminary study and that it could be years before this research is applicable to humans. Meanwhile, he recommends that women and men look to nonsurgical procedures to maintain a youthful appearance. Dermal fillers and physician-prescribed skin care in Calgary can help people achieve smoother skin in a safe, yet effective, manner.

"It's always interesting to see how technology will affect skin care patients and possibly enhance the results," Dr. McWhirter says. "However, until a lot more research on senescent cells and their effects on aging has been completed, I recommend patients use skin care treatments with proven results.

"Women and men can easily create a more youthful appearance with dermal fillers, BOTOX COSMETIC and laser hair removal in Calgary. The best way to learn about these and other skin care procedures is to discuss your options with a licensed physician."

Dr. Jason McWhirter (www.renue.ca) is a fully licensed physician with a special focus on dermatology. He graduated from the College of Physicians of Alberta and is a fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians. He is a member of the Canadian and Alberta Colleges of Physicians and Canadian and Alberta Medical Associations, as well as the Calgary Area Physicians Association and the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine.
