FDA-approved in 2007, this laser liposuction technique does not require a patient to be "put to sleep" with general anesthesia. Instead, tumescent lidocaine is used to fill the area which provides localized numbing, so the patient is kept relaxed, comfortable and awake, able to communicate with the physician. Unlike traditional liposuction, the ProLipo Plus method actually liquefies fat cells before they are removed causing much less trauma to tissue, resulting in decreased bleeding, swelling and bruising.
