NEW YORK, NY, October 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- St. Matthew's Baptist Church announced today Rev. Lisa D. Jenkins will be installed as the first female Pastor in their 88 Year History on November 10, 2013.---
Rev. Jenkins is no stranger to firsts. As a participant of the Empire Baptist Missionary Convention, Rev. Jenkins was selected as the first female to address the Ministers Division in the Annual Session of the Congress of Christian Education in February 2011. In October of the same year, she was selected to serve on the committee for the Pastors Division of the Convention and she introduced the Convention's first Women in Ministry Component in the Annual Session in October 2012.
A native of New York City, Rev. Jenkins was raised in Queens. She is a graduate of Pace University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications with a minor in Journalism. She also attained the degree of Master of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary. Rev. Jenkins was licensed to preach the gospel in October 1997, by Dr. Timothy P. Mitchell and the Ebenezer Baptist Church Congregation. She was ordained on August 31, 2003, by the Eastern Baptist Association of Greater New York at Calvary Baptist Church, Jamaica, New York, under the leadership of Rev. Victor T. Hall, Sr.
Rev. Jenkins is the mother of a teenage college student, an adjunct professor and a formidable preacher, teacher, public speaker, and activist. She is the founder of El DiJae Ministries and is currently a member of the Frederick Douglass Democratic Association, Community Board 10, The NAACP, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
