/24-7PressRelease/ - DULLES, VA, July 25, 2008 - Technology Advancement Group, Inc. (TAG) has been awarded the contract to supply Customs and Border Protection (CBP) with servers and displays to outfit all of the traffic lane checkpoints across all United States borders. This equipment gives officers the ability to use a variety of biometric tools, such as finger print scanners and passport readers, when implementing the new Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), checking individuals crossing into and out of the country.
"TAG is pleased to provide CBP with their mission-critical, land border crossing terminals. The company designed this equipment specifically for CBP officers' needs, ensuring that they can do their job reliably, safely, and securely," says Matt Hederstrom, Director of the Systems Division.
The system consists of a rugged 19" display with touchscreen and a small rugged server with a powerful Intel-based processor. The suite was designed with the border agent's job in mind, making it easier for them to secure our border in harsh, diverse environments. This equipment meets numerous environmental and rugged requirements to ensure the reliable border security, whether it's in Alaska in the winter or Texas in the summer.
The display, dubbed the LK-0100-19SW, features state-of-the-art touchscreen technology with optimal viewing in all lighting conditions, including direct sunlight. TAG sealed and coated the display for reduced glare. The LK-0100-19SW provides an intuitive and robust terminal for security personnel, and is ideal for physical security and/or check point applications. With its water-tight connectors, the touchscreen display allows for high speed peripherals like retinal scanners, passport readers, USB video feeds, etc. This drip proof, water-resistant display has removable VESA Mounting Base for easy wall mounting or swing arm mounting.
The server, or the SV-0100-THS, is a rugged and compact chassis featuring the latest in Intel technology, a powerful 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo processor. This machine's chassis (4" high) can fit into tight spaces (i.e. on or under a desk, on a dashboard, in a vehicle, etc.) maximizing its functional use. Weighing only 7.1lbs, the SV-0100-THS has unlimited portability options that re-defines value for mobile computing. It is built with a SATA hard drive and expandable memory up to 4GB. It is designed to meet (O) 0°C to 55°C and (N) -40°C to 70°C to stand up against the harshest of environments.
TAG has been providing equipment the Department of Defense for 25 years, which are deployed in every US Military theatre of operations and the majority of US weapons platforms. The engineering, integration, and program management that TAG leverages for the DoD will prove invaluable to CBP, according to Marcus DeSouza, COO.
"Our expertise lies in designing, manufacturing, and integrating reliable electronic equipment for harsh environments. The Department of Homeland Security, in general, will continue to benefit from that experience." says DeSouza.
