Learn for Life" educational event for the public and physicians on recent clinical trials using stem cell therapies.
Roger S. Gammon, M.D., Medical Director of Research & Interventional Cardiologist with
Austin Heart, will discuss the types, sources, and functions of stem cells and review progress gained in using stem cell treatments for vascular disease, heart attacks and limb restoration.
Eddy Davis, golf professional, artist and cancer survivor will share his personal experiences in battling lymphoma while being treated with stem cells. His personal story, " Stem Cells vs. Lymphoma: A View from the Trenches" will be visually represented by Texas photographer,
Wyatt McSpadden.
"It is important that Texans realize that medical advances in stem cell research make it a viable alternative now for treating a wide range of debilitating diseases," states Gammon. "Austin Heart is dedicated to stem cell research for the positive impact it could have on our patients' medical outcomes."
The Learn for Life educational event will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM CST at the
LIVESTRONG Headquarters. The public will gain a deeper understanding of the stem cell research and potential therapies that could improve the quality of life for the 1.2 million chronically ill Texans. Physicians in attendance are eligible to gain CME credits with the support of Austin Heart, accredited by the
Texas Medical Association (TMA) to provide continuing medical education. The 2011 Learn for Life Series is sponsored by
