The Intrepid Declutterer , Southern Living's favorite professional organizing service, is moving to North Carolina. After organizing projects in Europe and South America, organizer Adriel McIntyre is now focusing her attention closer to home.
Adriel founded The Intrepid Declutterer in 2005 after noticing a need for organizers in the Greenville/Upstate area. Her favorite expression for calming down clutter victims is "Don't worry, I've seen it all." And after a lifetime of helping people, she has: filing systems made out of lunch bags, clothes piled 6 feet high, kitchens overwhelmed with gidgets and gadgets. How does Adriel maintain her perspective? "Everyone gets things done, they function, which means they have a system that works for them in some areas. Organizing is a matter of connecting that individualized system to areas of life that seem out of control."
What made Adriel move up the mountain to the Asheville area? "After my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I immediately realized that being close to both my parents was where I wanted to be. Dealing with an ailing loved one has given me so much empathy in approaching the many projects I handle with caregivers in similar situations. It is hard to maintain good systems when it feel like life is crumbling around you!" Fortunately, there are some great de-stressing techniques that organizing can help you to accomplish. Like creating homes for things that are so intuitive that you don't even have to think about them.
Different situations in life demand immediate action (i.e. relocating, marriage, settling an estate). On such occasions, Adriel provides sensitive direction. As Vanesa Martinez commented on her first move after marriage, "Adriel accomplished in 3 hours what it would have taken me 3 weeks to do on my own!"
One of the things that distinguish The Intrepid Declutterer is her focus on helping clients to use personal strengths to tackle specific organizing needs. Three hour sessions help people to analyze old routines and establish new customized ones.
