ST. LOUIS, MO, September 26, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Ethan Schuman, DMD of The Schuman Center for Dental Aesthetics in Creve Coeur, MO is pleased to announce that he offers CEREC crowns in one hour.---
Much more than a traditional crown, CEREC (Chairside Esthetic Restoration Ceramics) technology allows for more durable, better fitting, and better looking crowns that can often be produced and placed in as little as one hour-long visit.
The CEREC system uses a unique 3D camera and a milling machine to make an exact copy of the tooth to be crowned. "First, we prepare the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface," Dr. Schuman says. "Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. There's no need to take a messy impression and send it to the lab. We work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth."
While the patient waits, a high-speed diamond bur shapes a tooth-colored ceramic block into a crown that matches the exact size and shape of the tooth as captured by the optical impression. Then the crown is further shaped in detail and fitted to the natural tooth with a strong adhesive.
CEREC crowns are not only fast to make and place, they also more closely mimic a real tooth, making them more comfortable and durable than traditional crowns. "CEREC crowns conduct heat and expand or contract just like natural tooth enamel," Dr. Schuman says. "Because they're so accurately made and placed, they don't tend to get decay underneath."
A cosmetic dentist that serves the St. Louis area, Dr. Schuman offers many general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry services to his patients in addition to CEREC crowns. Dr. Schuman also offers Invisalign, veneers, whitening, and more.
