GROVER BEACH, CA, November 16, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sister Soldier Project, a national initiative effort that has already shipped thousands of care packages to the Sister Soldiers, Black female US troops serving in the Middle East, totaling over (6) tons of goods, announces a major "Sister Soldier Packing Party" to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 5, 2009.
The Bethel AME Church of Greensboro, will co-host the event with Girl Scout Troop 40265. The hair care product sponsor for the event is Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC, the distributor of internationally known ethnic hair care brand Dudley's, headquartered in High Point, NC. Dudley's is featured in the current theatrical release documentary film, "Chris Rock's Good Hair."
This "Packing Party" is the first of four such planned gatherings at Bethel AME Church during the next twelve months; each calendar quarterly Party will add other local co-sponsors, culminating in a city-wide event during December, 2010.
Spearheaded by Myraline Morris Whitaker, its founder, the Sister Soldier Project sends hair care packages and letters to female soldiers filled with specific ethnic hair care products requested by the Sister Soldiers, those difficult to obtain while deployed in the Middle East Theater.
"When Dudley's was asked to partner with the Sister Soldiers Project, we were very excited and focused on selecting hair care products that meet the "Sistas" needs," says Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC Spokesperson Tanya Reid. Further she states, "The Piedmont Triad has been home to Dudley's for over 42 years, so the Greensboro Packing Party is a perfect opportunity for us to join this wonderful cause that reaches the hearts and hair of courageous women serving our nation overseas."
Rev Alphonso McGlen, Senior Pastor at Bethel AME Church, Greensboro, NC welcomes the event, stating that, "through the Sister Soldier Project we encourage the women who, through courage, defend freedom everywhere." Victoria Davis, Troop Leader of Girl Scouts Troop #40265 adds, "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the community and provide valuable lessons in service for our girl scouts; this lets them serve those individuals who protect us with such dedication and sacrifice."
During a Washington DC event this past September, the Sister Soldier Project was honored with the Congressional Black Caucus' Veterans Braintrust Award for 2009, in recognition of its "service to, and support of, the United States Armed Forces" and its "unique understanding of the special position of African American servicemen and women".
At the project's official website http://www.sistersoldierproject.com anyone interested in supporting these efforts can log onto the site and sponsor care packages to the Sister Soldiers.
About Sister Soldier Project, LLC
The Sister Soldiers Project was born out of the desire to send "care packages" to the brave women serving our nation, containing various ethnic personal care products so important to their quality of life, products unavailable to them through normal channels, thus giving them at least a small taste of their "normal" lives back home.
