GROVER BEACH, CA, June 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sister Soldier Project, the grass roots effort that has already shipped over (1500) care packages totaling (6) tons of goods to Black female US troops, the Sister Soldiers, serving in the Middle East, will hold a major "Packing Party" in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 27, 2009. The event, sponsored by the Zoe Christian Fellowship of Los Angeles Women's Army, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority and Luster Products, Inc. Pink Brand, will be held at the Fellowship Building, 5315 West Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

The Project sends care packages and letters to female soldiers filled with products difficult for them to acquire while deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and various ships at Sea. Spearheaded by project founder, Myraline Morris Whitaker, an active member of the California Central Coast business community, its inspiration came from a conversation Myraline had with a former female Marine. The Marine commented about the difficulty and arduous process her African American roommate had trying to manage her hair while on duty, due to a lack of access to proper hair care products.

In the past two years, numerous such "Packing Parties" have occurred throughout California plus, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and New Jersey.

Specifically for this Los Angeles event, the Project has assembled a list of (100) soldiers who have each requested and will receive a care package containing hair care items specifically manufactured for women of color, plus women's personal hygiene products, as well as other items containing comforting entertainment, such as DVD movies, music Cd's, books, magazines, snacks, and flavored water additives. All the items to be sent are being donated by generous people who care.

These women, as with the other U.S. Soldiers deployed in this region, risk their lives everyday to defend our rights and freedoms. Being in a war zone, these women are not able to go to a corner store to purchase much needed items to keep them in compliance with military standards for grooming . Therefore, the Sister Soldier Project comes together, with a long list of generous donators, to gather items much needed by these soldiers, pack them into care packages, and mail them along with personal letters from individuals who convey their caring, support, and gratitude.

The Sister Soldier Project volunteers have been busy contacting friends, colleagues, and professional organizations, requesting donations for the care packages. Those who donated locally include family and friends of Zoe Christian Fellowship of Los Angeles, Alpha Beta Chapter - Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority, Inc. (on a national level) and a number of concerned individuals from the community.

Luster Products, Inc. is a major national sponsor who generously and regularly donates to the Project's efforts.

An amazing part of each Sister Soldier Packing Party is that in spite of the unstable economy, there is a generous outpouring of love and donations which have been very heart warming and very humbling.

About Sister Soldier Project

The Sister Soldiers Project was born out of the desire to send "care packages" to the brave women serving our nation, containing various ethnic personal care products so important to their quality of life, products unavailable to them through normal channels, thus giving them at least a small taste of their "normal" lives back home.
