LONG BEACH, CA, November 14, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- One thing is certain as you are walking the pristine beaches of Manhattan Beach: beach volleyball rules. Mike Simms, owner of the newly opened Tin Roof Bistro at the Manhattan Village Shopping Center, is keenly aware of the town's penchant for volleyball. That is why he is teaming up with the Association of Volleyball Professionals to host "Serve Up A Cure" on Saturday November 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. benefiting Padres Contra El Cancer, a nonprofit supported by actress Eva Longoria to help children living with cancer.
Athletes who are used to serving on the sandy courts will, instead, serve the public as waiters, bartenders and hosts at the luncheon and all tips collected will be donated to Padres Contra El Cancer to supplement the funds being raised that day by Tin Roof Bistro. In addition to mingling with the players, guests will have an opportunity to pick up tips from them as a temporary volleyball clinic will be set up near the restaurant. Also, attendees will witness the creation of the massive ice cream sundae. Executive Chef Anne Conness will lead some of the young beneficiaries from Padres Contra El Cancer and AVP players in (putting on the finishing touches/topping the 100 pound concoction with whipped cream, hot fudge, caramel, nuts, cherries and other delectable items) during the two-hour event. The public will have an opportunity to partake in the massive dessert for only $2 each.
"We're delighted to be teaming with the AVP in supporting a nonprofit that is close to all of our hearts," said Simms. "For our first fundraiser, I thought it would be nice to invite the players to learn a new way of serving and it's all for a good cause. "
"The players are stoked about joining Mike and the team at Tin Roof Bistro in this great event for Padres Contra El Cancer," said Jay Reynolds, manager of AVP Cares, the fundraising arm of the athletic organization. "The afternoon should be a lot of fun and we're hoping that the public will join us in supporting this special event."
Space is limited and reservations are highly recommended, 310-939-0900.
