RALEIGH, NC, February 15, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/
-- United Way of the Greater Triangle (http://www.unitedwaytriangle.org), a nonprofit organization that works to improve lives by mobilizing community resources in Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties, has announced that the organization allotted $5,330,000 in 2013 to fund community programs. These funds will help United Way of the Greater Triangle's partner agencies in their efforts to expand and improve education, health, and financial stability programs. $2,680,135 has been designated for health, $1,889,676 for education and $699,384 for financial stability efforts.
In a change for 2013, United Way of the Greater Triangle gave a special focus on five core areas within the three broad donation categories. These areas - affordable permanent housing, financial management, sustaining employment and income supports, food and other basic needs, and access to health care - saw a 21 percent increase in funding over the previous year.
United Way of the Greater Triangle selected 16 new agencies to fund in 2013 and continues to support many long-time partners. The nonprofit organization currently works with 71 partner agencies that serve the Triangle region. Some of these agencies include The Boys and Girls Clubs, Interfaith Food Shuttle, YMCA and Triangle Family Services.
United Way of the Greater Triangle announced that they will be continuing to sponsor signature Triangle volunteer events such as Martin Luther King Day of Service, Day of Caring and the CEO Sleepout.
"As we focus on the agencies around the Triangle and on the services that can be provided through our partnerships, we are confident that many lives in the Triangle will be impacted," said CEO Mack Koonce. "We anticipate great success from our new focus and new direction, and look forward to continued great relationships with agencies and people throughout the region."
"We are so pleased to be able to increase our investment in programs concerning the most pressing areas for low-income families: affordable permanent housing, financial management, sustaining employment and income supports, food and other basic needs, and access to health care," said Koonce. "We have great plans to assist Triangle families through in or near poverty with basic needs and pathways to financial stability."
