The Vascular Vein Centers (VVC) here in Orlando brought the latest technology and vein treatment to a Dominican Republic Hospital, ushering one of the few modern treatments for venous disease in that nation.

ORLANDO, FL, February 09, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ --Dr. Hugo V. Hart joined four healthcare professionals from Vascular Vein Centers in a Medical Samaritan trip this past November and saw his team make an unimaginable impact. People traveled over 150 miles by bus to get treatment for extremely painful vein ulcers that had been neglected for six or eight years - something that is unheard of here in the United States. During the week-long stay, the team performed 56 procedures on 11 patients with severe venous disease. The patients had to be treated aggressively because this was their only chance to get to this level of care.

Dr. Hart initially proposed a Medical Samaritan trip to the Dominican Republic due to his personal connection and understanding of the nation. Although his father emigrated from the Dominican Republic when he was young, the country remains a strong part of his family's identity to this day. In fact, Dr. Hart's father returned to the Dominican after retiring from his surgical career and worked with the impoverished people.

The patients treated suffered from extended venous disease, with all but two of them having open ulcer wounds. Follow-up calls will continue as VVC helps guide these patients to health remotely over the coming months.

The team also left the nation with an arguably greater gift. One young woman, a product of the migrant sugar fields, came to the hospital to observe. She is interested in pursuing a medical degree and is committed to practice within her country to get the care the people deserve. VVC decided to offer her a scholarship to further her education and help her fulfill her goal.
