/Worldwide Who's Who/ -- Walter R. Barnes, president of the National Association of REO Brokers, Inc., has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in REO disposition and education.
A consummate innovator in marketing, Mr. Barnes has more than 41 years of leadership and managerial experience, initially in computer manufacting and later in REO disposition and education, commercial and residential real estate sales, and association management. He is responsible for developing a network of real estate agents and appraiser to determine the values of properties, and marketing foreclosed properties. He became involved in his profession after purchasing his first house when he was 21 years old. By the time he was 26, he owned numerous properties and rentals — all the while working full time.
In the '70s, he spent ten years as a real estate broker. During that time, there was an influx of distressed properties, some of which he sold. He went to work with Freddie Mac, where he was responsible for the disposition of REO inventory in the Western Region. Afterwards he went to work with a local bank, with their REO asset managers and support staff. It was during this time that he saw a gap in what brokers needed and that was when he formed National Association of REO Brokers, Inc.
Mr. Barnes has promoted twelve conferences and many workshops on REO management; and written a book and lectured on the subject. Providing educational opportunities has been a cornerstone of his success.
As stated, Mr. Barnes is an innovator in REO marketing. Using his computer background, he develop a computer program to monitor our client's REO activity, introduced
www.nareob.com, the first REO website to offer online REO asset management services to financial institutions and two year later introduces REO-Mart, the first real estate transactional website.
Mr. Barnes completed post graduate studies in urban planning at Harvard University. He received a bachelor of arts in public administration from Boston University. He is a former director and charter member of REOMAC. In 2003, he received a Citation of Meritorious Service from Rotary International.
