What Supporting Education is Needed?

Milanoo and college student volunteers explore the meaning of supporting education.

HONG KONG, March 06, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On February 22, all supporting education activities of the 4th college student education-supporting team came to an end, so the first phase of public benefit activities for 2014 initiated by Milanoo concluded.

As a traditional public welfare program, college student supporting education has invited a lot of young people to seed their knowledge, and their values as well, into remote rural areas. But for a long time, public benefit supporting education has given rise to many controversies because it doesn't place high qualifications on volunteers and their education content can not go as expected. So some questions arise: Whether we should disturb children's normal life under the name of supporting education? Whether we should change children's value within such a short period?

As Milanoo proposes, such supporting education activities during their winter vacation can help students and some public benefit organizations to explore further meanings of supporting education. For this time, four college student supporting education teams, sponsored by Milanoo, made their way to Shuangquan town,Youyang County in Chongqing, Sankeshu Town in Guizhou province, Lushan County in Ya'an City and Wenchang village, Yushan Town in Chongqing, respectively. They are composed of 40 plus student from SWJTU, UESTC and Southwest University for Nationalities.

Before these activities, those students had acquired some training from professional public service organizations, and they have benefited a lot. As Liu Xitian put in his daily record, "Literally, they live a normal life like us. Sometimes we notice their sorrow and sadness from their eyes, but they themselves never sense that, and they live on simply and happily. This is a simple life, generating simple happiness to them. Later I thought to myself and came to know that, why we always look on these children with sympathetic eyes, the reason is that we have lost such kind of life and such simple happiness."

As Milanoo's spokesman said, public benefit activities provide some service rather than handout. As always we advocate sincere attitude and scientific methods, otherwise such activities would lead to a wrong direction. As far as these undeveloped areas are concerned, they are truly in need of such information and vigor from these volunteers. But in some sense, it is not impractical for these volunteers to bring revolutionary changes to education conditions in these areas. It is a prerequisite for them to follow local cultural environment, so we tend to let these volunteers work as a supporter, rather than a revolutionist. We should continue to explore what supporting education will bring to there areas and where it should go.
