William Castelli, MD to be Profiled in Exclusive Registry

    MARLBOROUGH, MA, June 11, 2009 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Dr. William Castelli, Lipidologist for the Heart Center of MetroWest, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of healthcare.

As a lipidologist for the Heart Center of MetroWest, Dr. Castelli is responsible for monitoring risk factors when dividing total cholesterol by high-density lipoproteins. He has been very active in the Framingham Heart Study since 1965; he was recruited into the study as the director of the laboratory for 14 years. He separated the blood to identify the different types of cholesterol, coined the phrase good and bad cholesterol in a 1978 interview with Reader's Digest. Dr. Castelli also runs a clinic and lectures extensively on risk management of cardiovascular diseases.

Dr. Castelli received his MD and participiated in coursework in philosophy, at Universite catholique de Louvain in Belgium. He is a member of the National Lipid Association and the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention for the American Heart Association. In addition, he is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology and received the Paul Dudley White Award.
