RALEIGH, NC, June 22, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that Laura Vick, Ph.D., professor of anthropology, has been named professor emeritus. The recognition followed the unanimous approval of William Peace University's Board of Trustees. Having joined the Peace faculty in 1990, Vick has served the higher education institution for 23 years. ---
An active scholar, Vick's primary anthropology research has been centered on spider monkey socioecology and socialization in the Otoch Ma'ax Yetel Kooh Protected Area in Quintana Roo, Mexico. In addition to her research, she has served on numerous committees including the division chair of History, Religion and the Social Sciences, and has received accolades including the Alumnae Distinguished Professorship, the McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award and the Ragland Professorship for International Study.
Deeply invested in international studies, Vick has taken students annually since 1992 to Mexico for an intensive course in anthropology, archeology, history and art. A longtime organizer of student trips to Europe and the Middle East, she most notably launched the award-winning exchange program with Qatar University. The exchange program allows William Peace University students to attend Qatar while welcoming groups of Qatari students to Peace. Throughout the exchange program, students are exposed to a range of businesses across the Raleigh-Durham area as well as a fast-paced view of what it means to be a student of William Peace University.
"For more than 20 years, Laura has tirelessly educated the next generation of leaders, and it is through her unwavering passion and commitment to her study that our students have excelled year after year," said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. "She represents what we strive for as educators, and we are honored to unanimously recognize her as professor emeritus for her outstanding contribution to this institution."
