Worldwide Who's Who Names Johanna L. Lasonen, Ph.D. Professional of the Year in Higher Education

    Tampa, Florida, February 27, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Johanna L. Lasonen has been named a Worldwide Who's Who Professional of the Year in Higher Education. While inclusion in Worldwide Who's Who is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Who's Who membership.

Understanding the importance of a strong educational foundation, Johanna L. Lasonen completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in pedagogy at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, a Doctor of Education in vocational and technical education, with a minor in women in development policies and theories, at Virginia Polytechnic Institue and State University, and a Ph.D. in educational sciences at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

Drawing on her educational background, Dr. Lasonen pursued a career in higher education. With nearly 40 years of professional experience, she joined University of South Florida as a professor in the Department of Adult, Career, and Higher Education in 2010. She brings to her position an extensive research and teaching background on national and international levels. In addition to serving as an expert resource for the European Commission and UNESCO, Dr. Lasonen has also worked as a trustee for such organizations as the Internaitonal Vocational Education and Training Association. Proficient in consulting and public speaking, she has also served as an external evaluator for professorships and as a reviewer of editorial boards. In addition to teaching graduate level courses in career education and philosophy, Dr. Lasonen actively conducts research in her field. She is currently the principal investigator for the project "Opening Pathways to Competence and Employment for Immigrants."

Dr. Lasonen is affiliated with the American Educational Research Association, European Educational Research Association, American Technical Education Association, Omicron Tau Theta, The Phi Delta Kappa Society, and a member and former president of the International Vocational Education and Training Association. Throughout her professional career and community involvement, she has garnered several awards including the Outstanding Professional Award from Omicron Tau Theta, recognition as a Leader, Achiever and Outstanding Alumna from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and selection as a Professional of the Year with Worldwide Who's Who. Dr. Lasonen attributes her success to her methodical nature and detail-oriented approach. In the coming years, she aims to obtain additional United States funding for new research endeavors.
