With over 30 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Wonsic Hahn has worked with the KT Corporation for his entire career and is currently the chief executive officer of KT SAT, the company's satellite communication operation subsidiary. Active in his present role since 2017, he previously served as the executive vice president and head of the supplier chain management office with KT Corporation from 2014 to 2016 and as the senior vice president from 2010 to 2013. During this time, he was also the head of the B2B Product Business Unit and the head of the Mobile Data Service Business Unit. Earlier in his career, Dr. Hahn contributed his skills to the KT Corporation through the Marketing Group, The Strategy Office, The Research and Development Center, and the Quality Assurance Center.
Highly accomplished in his career, Dr. Wonsic Hahn notably set up the long-term strategy for future telecommunication service with the KT Corporation in 2000. Instrumental in the establishment of the Wireless Broadband Alliance in 2003, he impressively led the invention of Nespot Swing, the world's first smartphone with both CDMA and Wi-Fi modules in one body, that same year. More recently, Dr. Hahn was responsible for launching the world's first augmented reality application, "Olleh Catch Catch," in 2011 and, in 2017, he was the driving force behind the launches of two major satellites, KoreaSAT-5A and KoreaSAT-7.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Hahn earned a Bachelor of Science in material engineering from Hanyang University in Seoul in 1983 and a Master of Science in material engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1985. Continuing his studies over the course of his career, he went on to study at the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Physics in 1990. Dr. Hahn concluded his studies with a Master of Business Administration from Seoul National University in 2006.
In addition to his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Hahn has been involved with the Korea Tele-screen Association, the Wireless Broadband Alliance, the Business and Technology Cooperation Committee and the Conexus Mobile Alliance. Furthermore, he helped to co-author "Click at Cyber World" for the KT Research and Development Cyber World Forum in 2000. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Hahn has received multiple commendations from the Minister of Science and Technology, the Minister of the Korea Communications Commission, the Minister of Finance and several other governmental authorities.
Married with one child, Dr. Hahn enjoys painting in his spare time. Looking toward the future, he intends to pursue a career in academia as an adjunct professor and continue his painting endeavors in Paris.
